Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Charity – Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Since 2013, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship has supported the First Tee of Phoenix, Junior Golf Association of Arizona and the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix.

First Tee of Phoenix

The First Tee of Phoenix impacts more than 150,000 youth each year through regular programming at 15 locations in Maricopa County. At the 2020 tournament, four junior golfers from the First Tee of Phoenix played in the Pro-Am with eight-time PGA TOUR Champions winner Kirk Triplett.

"Some of the crowds and the people that I was hanging out with, I got to realize that they weren't the best people, they weren't the best things to be doing," said Gabriel Murillo, one of the First Tee participants who played with Triplett. "Through golf and the First Tee of Phoenix, having somewhere to go after school, having people that support me and that are there for me, and an outlet to be able to just come and relax and be myself, really helped me in those years and changed me into the man I am today."

Junior Golf Association of Arizona

Founded in 1983, the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) is a non-profit organization that introduces Arizona’s youth to the game of golf and helps junior golfers develop golf and life skills through competitive programs and tournaments. JGAA juniors Alan Quezada and Ashlyn Carpenter played with PGA TOUR Champions pro Joey Sindelar in the pro-am in 2020.

"So the way I like to think about what's happening today is remembering when I got to play in the B.C. Open pro-am when I was about 13," Sindelar said. "A bunch of locals put me in and I played with Leonard Thompson, and I stood on that first tee so nervous that I didn't know my name. For me, it's about trying to remember what they must be feeling and what might make them feel good, and that makes me happy."

Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley empowers young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible members of the community. The Clubs continue to be a safe and productive place for kids after school and during the summer with extended hours. BGCMP focuses on three core pillars of the organization: Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, and Good Character and Leadership. BGCMP serves more than 10,000 kids, tweens and teens every year in their 16 Clubs and School-based Sites.

In 2018 and 2019, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship hosted Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix Youth Day, where kids had some hands-on fun at the tournament.

“We are so grateful to Charles Schwab and their partners who invest with us through this special event. We cannot open the doors, turn on the lights and keep kids safe without incredible organization like Charles Schwab believing in our kids. Thank you, Charles Schwab!!!” – Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix
